The Noughties are over and we have to say goodbye to the first decade of the Millennium. It is a shame because there was many zeitgeist breaking moments in the decade in the music world. The irony then, that 2009 was a pretty nondescript year, is not lost...
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of seeing television programmes lamenting what a piss poor decade the so-called ‘noughties’ have been. I mean, a decade is just a period of time definable by the fact that it spans exactly ten years...WHEN MUSIC MET FASHION
ROCKSTAR + MODEL = ?

In society today we often associate the music industry’s talents with the ever-so-on-trend spawn of the fashion world. Years ago one would assume I was refering only to those who were fashion models; a la Campbell and Evangalista, but consequently nowadays the word is used far more commonly. The supermodels of our era aka Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn have been known to dabble with the hearts of rockstars, although contrary to this fact Moss is rumoured to have said adios to Hince (someone tell me why?) and even Aggy has been seen cavorting on a bicycle with The Stroke’s guitarist Albert Hammond Jnr- best she stick to dating some one in a band, as opposed to singing in one, hey?
Anyway, these designer models and fashionistas are nowadays gracing the pages of every celeb driven mag, which FYI isn’t exactly Vogue,is it darling? I ask myself, where along the lines of these high flyer’s careers did they stop and think to themselves that to gain more public interest (oh the vanity of it) they felt the necessity to couple themselves with controversial rockeresque characters who more often than not equal their downfall?
Nowadays we’re unlikely to glance twice at new stands showcasing the latest supermodel caught sniffing coke, or even a hugely public brawl with a pap or even a police woman COUGH Naomi Campbell, so it came as a great shock to see the celebrated Brit and Grammy award winning Mark Ronson showcasing new beau Daisy Lowe. Daisy aka infamous lovechild of Pearl Lowe of the Primrose Hill set, and Gavin Rossdale, husband to Gwen Stefani and front man of ‘Bush’, is controversially FOURTEEN years his junior. Inevitably this heightened her celebrity status, where modelling jobs are vast- (she was spotted on Chanel’s catwalk for this years Autumn/Winter collection) but what prompted the young socialite to join arms with super-producer Ronson?
Eyeing up the second instalment of the duo we have a musically acclaimed music producer whose bff’s are the likes of Lily Allen and Amy Wino, and is adored by many a woman. Perhaps this is why it seems a little hazy as to why a man of his acclaim, and more importantly age, would focus his attentions on a young less experienced girl. I mean, I have often believed that age is simply a number but I quiz the motive behind this controversial pair? For Daisy it is clear that she will dominate the American market further due to Mark, but despite this we forget that she is a 19 year-old girl. Rumour has it that this relationship is already under strain due to Ronson’s newest work venture with The Zutons drummer’s sister Candie Payne. Spending all that time in the close proximity’s of the recording studio is apparently making Daisy feel left out, which figures. Obviously she’s too young to be in a relationship with a man under such demand so I very much doubt this duo will be coupling for much longer.
In the eye of society today we are often passive to the tabloid rumours and what has been deemed in or out, but because of the media regular peoples lives have become something of daily reading and we as an audience decide these people’s fate. When Kate Moss finally broke up with Pete Doherty (after he practically ruined her modelling career and iconic status) she decided that rock stars were still on the menu. Having been a huge Kill’s fan long before they gained this new found celebrity status, Alison “VV” Mosshart and Jamie “hotel” Hince are now household names. Some would believe that this was due to the sheer brilliance of “Midnight Boom” but it is clear that the relationship with Moss has put them on the map, and all the line- ups for this years must-go-to festivals. Perhaps in comparison to the relationship of Ronson and Lowe, Hince was in desperate need of this publicity for his band and knew it would kick-start his career again. Having played at the Chloe perfume opening party this spring certainly proved that the Moss/Hince relationship was certainly doing everything he wanted it to do. Considering they have split after only ten months together provides another example of these short-lived relationships.
The fashionistas that we are so accustomed to hearing about on a daily basis are constantly stepping out and breaking up with their rock star boyfriends. Many question the imbalance between these celebrity types as more often than not we are constantly bombarded with headlines sporting controversy. Question is; will they ever learn?
