David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Violet Bones : 'I Feel The Need'

Violet Bones : 'I Feel The Need'

Released: 20th April 2010

Label: The Animal Farm

Despite BBC Introducing recognition, Cambridgeshire quartet Violet Bones offer little fresh or new with latest single “I Feel The Need”. Whilst not being a poor track, it suffers from a distinct lack of imagination.

Starting out on a positive note with choppy chords, a swift descent into palm muted guitars and a shadowed bass line is an indication of things to come. Followed by a rehashed, if undeniably catchy chorus, there is little hope for much individuality.

Frustratingly, it seems each band member is more than capable at their respective duties. With a warm tone and a pleasant solo the guitars are a strong point, whilst the drums offer up intricate beats to accompany. It is therefore even more puzzling that, amidst clear musical talent, the band opt for rehashed and recycled themes.

Although not a massive faux pas for Violet Bones, “I Feel The Need” is certainly not their strongest effort. Despite it's plus points it seems genuine promise is sold down the river in favour of a stale sound that belies their talents.
