V.V Brown: 'Crying Blood'

V.V Brown: 'Crying Blood'

Summer is nearly upon us, and here is a guaranteed summer anthem. London based songwriter V.V Brown has recently been at the top of many ‘one to watch for 2009’ polls and it’s very easy to see why.  'Crying Blood' (wrote on a one-stringed guitar),  is an infectious, fast paced and very catchy pop song, with a sound obviously influenced by 50/60s doo-wop and clever lyrics, guaranteed to make her a massive star of 2009.

Vocally it’s hard to judge her abilities, due to the shouty style of the vocals on this track although in-keeping with the style, yet her tone is perfect and she makes sure what could be a potentially annoying song is an utter dream to listen to.

The song wouldn’t adhere to the retro sound without a good dose of Hammond organ and some heavy drum beats, something the song has lots of and obviously revels in.

Lyrically V.V is tight and stands her ground, although some of the lyrics are a little cliched she sings about her disdain for a man, 'Can’t believe what you done to me/ obviously it is hard to see that the sun will never shine when we are together'.  Although not the most revolutionary lyrics, it fits the upbeat song perfectly and is easy to remember when you're singing it with friends on the dance floor.

Although V.V Brown is obviously going to get compared to Amy Winehouse and Duffy due to the retro sound qualities, anyone that thinks they are in competition with each other would be much mistaken.  V.V is all about having a good time and staying happy, you wouldn’t expect her to bring out something like Back to Black nor do I think it would suit her. She seems to have found a niche in the market and hopefully we will be seeing a lot more of her.
