The Silent Years : 'Amusement Park'

Released: 5th October 2009
Label: Gift Music
With it's easy going attitude and chirpy melody, “Amusement Park” is a pleasure from start to finish. The latest offering from Detroit act The Silent Years, it combines a range of influences to produce an eclectic yet simple result that does not fail to charm.
Overly complex instrumentation can often hinder a track, and it is good to see The Silent Years exercising restraint their melody construction. A simple yet effective drum beat provides a solid basis for a floating guitar melody to take centre stage. Slight electronic manipulation adds character without detracting from the riff its self, with an rousing chorus signalling a good use of crescendo.
Josh Epstein's vocals possess a haunting quality that, combined with such atmospheric instrumentation, fit in perfectly with the tone of the track. Delicate yet undeniably forceful he whispers through the verses only to explode at selected points to great effect. Echoed backing vocals add a three dimensional effect, doing well to evoke a somewhat psychedelic feel.
Such impressive song construction goes a long way to making “Amusement Park” the success it is, and surely a band capable of such feats will have a lot to offer in the future. With a sounds musical grounding and Epstein's versatile voice, further success is almost certain.
