The Honeymoon Suite : 'Calm Your Little Passions' EP

The Honeymoon Suite : 'Calm Your Little Passions' EP

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Lab Records

Who said you have to rely on American pop punk imports like Fall Out Boy to get your pop punk fix when you have some tender and oh so addictive pop punk cuts to sample right here on your doorstep. Introducing The Honeymoon Suite, a mancunian five piece whose latest EP ‘Calm Your Little Passions’ proves they’re not only bound for bigger stages but they might as well be carrying the torch for pop-punk in this United Kingdom of ours, and all within just three songs.

Drawing influences from newer pop punk acts such as Kids in Glass Houses and Youmeatsix to even hints of classics like Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory and it’s the EP’s welcoming track ‘A New Low’ that instantly cements the premise that this band has a good leg to stand on with its peers.

But it’s the title track ‘Calm Your Little Passions’ that really shows off this bands ability to fuse original riffs with a chorus so catchy and contagious it should come with a vaccine. Singer David Moloney's vocal harmonies are the strongest here showing that vocal characteristics can really make a song.

Bringing an early end to Calm Your Little Passions, ‘I wish I wished you well’ does so with much style introducing some calmer melodies with riffs sounding somewhere between Paramore’s Josh Farro and Taking Back Sunday's former guitarist Fred Mascherino.

So many modern punk bands pull off quirky lyrics and half-arsed music to accompany it. The Honeymoon Suite break tradition with some inspired lyrics and original riffs that both really complement each other to great effect. If this is the starting point for The Honeymoon Suite anything else from here on is just gravy.
