The Dykeenies: 'Sounds Of The City'

The intro to the new song by The Dykeenies sounds like something you could hear ITV playing during football highlights. This isn’t a criticism, it just sounds really big.
The chorus is something you can imaging their loyal fans shouting back at them, “I am ready to go anywhere with you.” It is such an epic song, it sounds perfect for festivals and stadiums.
Although they are only on their second album, the sound is different from their 2 year old debut, Nothing Means Everything. It sounds a bit more “grown up” as they say, but don’t let that put you off. The Dykeenies make decent pop music but at the same time, the music seems like they are singing to reassure you that everything will be alright (listen to 'Stitches' and 'Clean Up Your Eyes').
'Sounds Of The City' is quite sad for the most part, especially the bit before the chorus “I need you and you don’t need me.” I’m pretty sure a lot of us can relate to that - but don’t let it put you off. They are the perfect band to listen to if you’re feeling a bit sad and need something to pick you up (see what I did there…another song title!). Their lyrics are quite deep but the music is enough to make you dance a bit.
The Dykeenies are really good live, and I reckon 'Sounds Of The City' will most definitely be a highlight at their gigs and festival appearances, if they are doing any this summer.
Don’t let The Dykeenies be the band that got away!
