David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

The Dirty Disco : 'Sista!' EP

The Dirty Disco : 'Sista!' EP

Released: 8th February 2010

Label: Stuck In My Head Records

Confusing, shrill and at times downright blasphemous, Sista! EP is a curious and frustrating three tracks that are sure to severely divide attention.

Comprising only one original track, “Sista” proves to be a solid electro number boasting a saccharine – sweet melody, despite seeming a little over saturated at times. However, Black Eyed Peas remix “Boom Boom Sista!” adds little to a well renowned track, only serving to irritate despite a catchy rhythm. Hearing Fergie belt the chorus out is bad enough at the best of times, but sped up and sounding not unlike a deranged chipmunk is nothing short of unbearable.

Yet it is their version of Florence and the Machine's “Rabbit Heart” that smarts the most. Stripped of it's poise and charm, male vocals make mincemeat of the powerful chorus whilst leaving the verses bland and lifeless. Such a track should always be treated with respect, even when it comes to a complete remix, yet little is shown here as it is mercilessly trampled to death.

So Sista! EP is indeed frustrating and brash, but most of all it is just downright strange. With a mismatched agenda and some strange remixes it is certainly a head scratcher, if nothing else.
