The Dead Weather : 'I Cut Like A Buffalo'

The Dead Weather : 'I Cut Like A Buffalo'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Third Man/Columbia Records

Oozing with talent from some of modern music's finest acts, The Dead Weather prove their worth once again with their fantastic new single “I Cut Like A Buffalo”. Stripped down, edgy and full of creativity it swaggers from start to finish, showcasing the band in all their off beat glory.

With a undisguised raw feel, the track centres around a simple yet wonderfully catchy riff. Supplied mainly by organ, it adds an unusual and distinctive tone to a far from conventional arrangement. Although rarely deviating from this staccato melody there is no fear of stagnation, with the occasional guitar tweak and subtle yet authoritative drumming intriguing throughout.

Understated vocals do well to add to the minimalistic feel. In almost threatening style Jack White and Alison Mosshart bounce wonderfully off each other, accentuating the gritty tone in each other's voices and creating an almost nightmarish atmosphere when synthesised lightly. A light touch allows the track to move under it's own steam, with the vocals providing the idea accompaniment without domineering.

Such understated and intelligent music is few and far between, something that adds even more weight to the impressive creativity of The Dead Weather. Perfect exposition makes “I Cut Like A Buffalo” the track it is, raw yet learned and astute in it's distinctive manner.
