The Cinematics : 'Love and Terror'

Released: Out Now!!!
Label: The Orchard
Glaswegian four-piece, The Cinematics, who on first impression look like a suspect line-up to a school boy prank, manage to produce an all-encompassing, pleaser of a track. It hooks you in with a bruising bass line and grunge-gurgling guitars, while all the time Scott Rinning is screaming for you to “give (him) love and terror.” He’s quite demanding, it seems.
Requests aside, this quavering, Bowie-esque vocal, is raw and uplifting, and has just the right amount of vintage edge, to not enter into the realms of wannabe old-school heroes. The echoic voice behind Rinning’s adds an extra deep-sea depth and if you stick your ear to the speaker, you can hear some cutesy country curls.
‘Love and Terror’ doesn’t sound too far away from being on the soundtrack of some retro film like The Labyrinth or Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (both cracking films, no denying). This, I might add, can only be a good thing; The Cinematics have certainly upped their alternative rock antics.
