Sivert Hoyem : 'Moon Landing'

Sivert Hoyem : 'Moon Landing'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Hektor Gramaphon

Norwegian alternative rock singer Sivert Hoyem releases his third solo effort with its first single, 'Moon landing'.

The former Madrugada singer (Norway's premier rock band) has made a pretty normal and quite blande single here, it doesn't push many boundaries. It's a safe track to release, with floaty keyboard sounds and predictable chord changes apparent throughout the 4 minutes. A band like Orson (remember them?) would probably produce something like this for a future single, a futile American mid-late noughties rock sound that would barely reach the attention of the 'top 40', let alone the general media commenting on them.

The song itself is one of genuine sorrow and agitation also...'For now i've had enough from you/im done and so are you are/go see what you can do/the universe is expanding/the silence is commanding'

What is a positive is Mr Hoyem's voice. It has a quite distinct tone, and if you listen well enough you may feel comparison's with Richard Hawley. You feel that the guy is talented but on evidence of this single he's letting himself look undervalued.

For fans of Madrugada it is an obvious change of direction for Hoyem and may find it refreshing. However to the general music fan the consensus here really is it's nothing to be too excited about.
