Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Richard Walters : 'The Animal'

Richard Walters : 'The Animal'

Released: 21st September 2009

Label: Kartel

Who is Richard Walters? Well, I have no idea really but I am sat on my bedroom floor listening to his album and I have to say, it’s not bad. Not bad at all.

I thought it’d be a interesting album judging by the album artwork (they say to never judge a book by its cover, but you ALWAYS have to make an exception with albums, don’t you?)

It opens with 'Brittle Bones' which sounds a bit like a hymn, but don’t let that put you off. It’s a delicate, relaxing song. I’ve been up since 6am, so delicate and relaxing is what I need to hear right now.  Richard Walters’ voice sounds quite vulnerable throughout the album, which to an extent makes the album easy on the ears as the vocals do not sound forced. I wouldn’t be surprised if comparisons to Bright Eyes are forthcoming.  And fact, there’s even a chance he may be compared to the devil himself, James Blunt, but I won't do that.

If an acoustic guitar, a piano and a relaxed vibe is your kind of thing, then maybe you will like Richard Walters and this LP.  It is a slow paced album, but it does have some highlights, such as track number 6, 'The Animal'. If you get a copy of it, and you find you don’t like it- I’m sure your mum will. That’s not a dig at Richard Walters, some of us have cool mums.
