Paul Steel : 'In a Coma'

Paul Steel : 'In a Coma'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Self-Release

If we lived in a dream world where The Saturdays and Girls Aloud didn’t reign supreme and The Jonas Brothers hadn’t released their vile manufactured banal pop to the masses then Paul Steel would surely be king.

Taken from his long awaited debut album Moon Rock, ‘In a coma’ is an inspired combination of mid 90’s indie pop wistfully combined with the heart and passion of 60’s rock and roll’

The song opens with what sounds like is meant to be a heart monitor (it would make sense considering the songs name), from here on in the track is pure unadulterated joy. Steel’s vocals bring to mind the sound of The Beach Boys in their Petsounds era, with some fantastic vocal harmonies and handclaps and yet at the same time make you think more of Supergrass, a bizarre combination on paper, yet something that works surprisingly well.

Futhermore Steel’s lyrics are witty yet understated, ‘Im in a coma cos some bloke mowed me down, it was a driver on his day job taxi round’.

‘In a coma’ is a song that you should spread the word about, it is the ultimate summer feel good song that can’t help but make you smile, the songs unique ending also proves that Steel does not take himself to seriously. A must buy, better yet get the album.
