Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Man Like Me: 'Single Dad'

Man Like Me: ‘Single Dad’

Man Like Me have been up until now a well-kept secret, unless you happen to have tapped into “modern-music’s cool, alternative edges” over 2008.  But rest assured that is about to change once 'Single Dad' rampages across our airwaves next month.

Catchy, anthemic, and witty are just a few insightful words you could apply to this 4 minutes of Madness-esque bout of utter tunage.  Lyrically speaking this is a socially aware song about becoming a parent in an insightful, unpatronising sort of way; yeah there’s a message but it’s more self-assuring and tongue in cheek.

The infectious trumpets and Caribbean flavours resulting from the hammering of steel drums, gives the track the flamboyant qualities that will make this an a-list radio hit, plus a hook that will cement it in your memory for a long time after. Don’t get me wrong, for all the praise I can lavish there will be the haters, but Man Like Me’s much needed injection into the world of popular music right now will get a reaction, and good or bad that can only be a positive thing.

The accompanying video for this crossover track is a complete piss take, showing the North London collective larking around with a doll whilst a grown man dressed as a baby and playing a trumpet dances around in the background…(think more along the lines of parody as opposed to Paraphilic Infantilism……). It’s a colourful attempt at addressing a serious issue and although autobiographically based around Johnny Langer becoming a dad, it’s comedic values make it less sensitive.

Man Like Me are a force to be reckoned with on the live circuit and their forthcoming album promises to make their ubiquity inevitable.

Watch the video here and get the single in February.
