Johnny Foreigner : 'Feels Like Summer'

Released: 22nd June 2009
Label: Best Before Records
I am always slightly surprised by the number of bands that have ‘Johnny” in their name. I’m not entirely sure why that is, I suppose it just seems strange. In this respect, I feel like I have been hearing the name Johnny foreigner for quite some time but never got around to listening to them as rarely felt any band named with the aforementioned male shortening of “Jonathon” would never live up to the peaks of Johnny Truant’s massive debut EP, “The Repercussions Of A Badly Panned Suicide”.
In that, I believe I was correct. However, Johnny Foreigner have come up with an appropriately titled single here. Firstly, because the weather has been rather lovely of late, and secondly because “Feels Like Summer” is a charmingly warm piece of indie that reminds me quite strongly of early Los Campesinos’ track “We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives”. Not a bad thing, as that was probably my favourite track from their debut and still gets the occasional spin in 7” format, inciting silly sing alongs.
“Feels Like Summer” then isn’t going to change the world, we may forget about it quickly, but the summer is here, play it loud and play it often...and I’d imagine it goes well with cider and parks too.
