Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

I Am Ghost: 'Bone Garden'

I Am Ghost: 'Bone Garden'

I Am Ghost, the Californian creation of Stephen Juliano, release their second single of the year in 'Bone Garden', a four minute post-hardcore assault on the bravest of speakers. I must confess, post-hardcore is not a genre within which I spend much time, nor one I'd lay claim to knowing the intricacies of, but variety is supposedly the spice of life and 'Bone Garden' certainly spiced me up on this coldest of December days.

It appears to me that the song holds a simple structure, one based around a simple 3-note guitar hook. Just like indie, eh? Well no, not really. Where I Am Ghost differ is in their tempo, power and delivery, all of which help to personify the anguish and anger pursed in their words. I don't think the line 'I am an addict burning winter, a closed-door annihilator' would sit too well on the new Kaiser Chiefs' album for starters. And yet we arrive at the chorus - battered, bruised and maybe even a little scared - to find a lovely little sideshow about rain and parades, I almost closed my eyes for a moment. No, no - he's shouting again, back to reality. I had to listen to this record five or six times to get a fair grasp on it and came to the conclusion that if your diet is post-hardcore, I Am Ghost are your feast - enjoy.
