Hot Chip : 'I Feel Better'

It really does seem like only yesterday I was dancing away to the sounds of the yet-to-be-released “The Warning”, second album from the Hot Chip boys while at University. But here we are four years later, and Hot Chip now have four fine records under their belt, of which “I Feel Better" is the second single from the fourth and most recent “One Life Stand”.
Featuring auto-tuned verse vocals from Joe Goodard over a continuously looped stabbing synth line, this single is all about Alexis’ chorus line which is, perhaps, one of the finest things that Hot Chip have done to date. The chorus brings the song to life from the, sadly, slightly flat verse, though the percussion does pick up in the second, breathing a touch more life into it, before swirling out in a whirl that wonderful chorus, partially blended with elements of Joe’s deeper vocal.
As much as I want to love this single, the verse is a constant niggle and, for me, the antidote to this has become the KID COLA remix which substitutes warm bass and 4/4 beats for the verse before breaking down into a stunning edit of the chorus. Easily the best mix of the track, though not in the official package and just a bootleg. Find it online.
