Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Fenech Soler : 'Lies'

Fenech Soler : 'Lies'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Moda Music

Some people's musical taste baffles me. The other day one of my friends was lamenting that Snow Patrol were doing themselves a disservice and betraying their fans by teaming up with Cheryl Cole for a Children In Need concert. Don't Snow Patrol achieve this by merely existing? Surely Cheryl is a sprinkling of sugar on the steaming turd he is trying to call a biscuit? Instead of listening to music that sound like it was specifically designed to accompany an advert for an abandoned dogs' charity he should be listening to Fenech Soler's new single "Lies". Firstly, it would have stopped me from cutting him out of my life completely and secondly, it's superb.

Yes, Fenech Soler are part of the electro revival but if you think they are just following the trend you couldn't be more mistaken. The sound is electro-pop, with synths booping and beeping in abundance, but the execution is something truly special. Fenech Soler go far further than a bit of simple tin foil decoration. Instead they create something that is worthy of Justice or Daft Punk in its complexity and sense of pure, good-times dance. And then, on top of that, they place a cracking indie vocal like some sort of glittering fez. Title single "Lies" is just glorious, it whisks you straight to next summer with a grin on your face screaming "Lies! Lies" at a migraine causing pitch. "LA Love" is Justin Timberlake but with a huge pair of swinging glitterballs. If it comes on it's sexy enough to bump and grind your way to a bit of loving, or simply dance your tits off if you're loving everyone. The two singles are complimented by two even dancier remixes which leads me to believe you'll be hearing this remixed around a club near you very soon. If it isn't I'll eat that glittering fez. Or listen to Snow Patrol with a smile on my face and not at all thinking about unhappy talking dogs.
