Dub Pistols : 'Ganja'

Released: 8th March 2010
With the track entitled ‘Ganja’, it is unsurprising to learn that this song sounds like it has came straight out of Kingston, Jamaica. Dub Pistols have come at us again with a track from their 4th album ‘Rum and Coke’, featuring UK hip-hop legend Rodney P on the vocals.
Barry Ashworth and Jason O’Bryan create a catchy tune that has many a Ska and Reggae influence thrust upon it, and will have you bopping your head without realising you are doing so.
The sound of steel drums sets a nice backdrop for the listener, making them feel they are chilling out on a Caribbean beach with a Malibu, or indeed a Rum, and Coke.
As for Rodney P, he lays his lyrics down well, “legalise the weed!” he says, onto a chilled-out vibe that is an amalgamation of dub and reggae, with a sprinkling of hip-hop.
However, the tune is not solely about marijuana. References to God, these “perilous times” and men respecting women, and not throwing drinks over them, mean the tune is more than just a man discussing his love for ‘Ganja.’
In fact, Dub Pistols and P even have time to poke fun at Kate, “this ain’t about the class A drugs, a Kate Moss ting.”
So, give this tune a chance and listen to some of the lyrics, and you will be relatively surprised as to what you hear, as even though there are a few drug references being banded around, there are also a lot of morals and life lessons in there that people could do a lot worse than to listen to.
