Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Django Django : 'Wor'/'Skies Over Cairo'

Django Django : 'Wor'/'Skies Over Cairo'

Released: Out Now!!!

Moody and nostalgic yet brilliantly fun, 'Wor' is another impressive effort from Django Django.

Moving from lonesome kettle drums to a clean, sixties inspired riff, it seems the band might be writing the theme to a spy film. Full of twists and turns, it pulses with rapid dynamic changes, snappy rhythms and sirens abound. Amidst the cacophony of experimentation, a catchy, harmonised vocal melody completes the foot tapping ensemble with aplomb.

Instrumental B-side 'Skies Over Cairo' packs yet more flavour into a seemingly simple track. As to be expected, Egyptian influences flirt with electro beats and eerie pulses. Building in stature, it becomes a multi-textural affair before fading to a quietened departure.

Although straightforward in premise, these two tracks prove a great insight into their architects; Scratch the surface, and there is a lot more going on amidst the nostalgic themes. For all the sirens and electronic oddities, Django Django know how to write very accomplished songs.
