Delphic : 'Doubt'

Released: 5th January 2010
Label: Chimeric/Polydor
As good a 2009 as Delphic have had, this year promises so much more. With the long awaited debut album Acolyte set for a January release it will start in celebratory style, a salute to the hard work endured throughout a busy year.
Latest single “Doubt” is a slice of what to expect come January, sticking very much to what Delphic know. Based around complex beats and crystallised melodies it is instantly recognisable, trademark soft vocals adding to that familiar sound.
A slightly more accessible chorus also promises to attract new fans as well as satisfying existing ones. By toning down their sometimes intimidating synthesisers the vocals are allowed to take centre stage, demonstrating impressive poise as well as a dominating tone.
Although restrained these synths are by no means anonymous, spattering flecks of electro noise amidst the persistent rhythms to great effect. The toned down approach suits Delphic, showing a considered side not always evident amongst their flashing lights and pulsing beats.
As expected, “Doubt” is yet another solid track from a band steadily growing in stature. Yet whilst this is impressive, it is the attention to detail that impresses the most, showing a consideration and maturity that will stand them in good stead throughout 2010 and beyond.
