David's Lyre

David's Lyre

Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present.  Although if fairness exists in the world at all (don’t mention the world cup) this is merely because few people have been introduced to him.

Allow me to change this.

Singer/songwriter David’s Lyre, while only in his twenties, has an expansive musical background behind him in other guises. However now, as David's Lyre his unique take on alt-folk tinged poppy goodness is perfectly placed to take on counterparts already well versed amongst the public with their own musical offerings.

Perhaps the obvious comparison is Jack Penate, however personally I feel this does David's Lyre a disservice. Sure he’s a soloist who combines glimpses of soul, folk, indie and pop in a similar vein, but its essentially gimmick free and vocally reaches more interesting territories. Actually if you get the chance to see David’s Lyre in the live environment, something we unreservedly recommend, you will have the chance to hear a talent who’s ability far outweighs the demos available on his MySpace.

A recent show at 93 Feet East in the heart of London’s Brick Lane demonstrated this perfectly, as the busy audience all stood there entranced, totally taken in by the showcase of a young man who was only playing his second show as David’s Lyre. His vocal is spellbinding as he sings his tales of the heart; all the while encapsulating the eclectic mix of influences he peppers his music with.

Alongside penning his own music and wordsmanship, David's Lyre has a decent reputation as a remixer, working on remixes for bands including Everything Everything and Two Door Cinema.  Furthermore remixes of his own tracks are doing the rounds across our internet; the most exciting of which by The Last Skeptik who has taken the track ‘Constellations’ and turned it into a semi-dubstep infused stripped back affair that compliments the vocal beautifully.

Its early days of course, yet these are perfect times to catch David's Lyre in more intimate surroundings as no doubt come January and those terrifying ‘Ones to Watch’ lists get published, David and his Lyre will be making an appearance everywhere.

In the meantime we are thrilled to be able to offer our readers these free MP3's by way of introduction.
