Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Alexis Jordan : Happiness

Out : Now

Label : RocNation

Although unlikely to get many heralding the re-invention of the wheel, Alexis Jordan does more than enough with her debut single “Happiness” to catch the ear and impress.

Easily recognisable as the familiar, euphoria tinged dance pop typical of many clubs, Jordan brings a quality to raise it above most. With a syrupy vocal tone and a seductive melody in the choruses the nineteen year old is instantly likeable. Combined with retro-tinged drum mechanics and choppy synths, her vocals acre accentuated still further, making the entire ensemble tidy and extremely workable.

Such execution is what makes it easy to see Jordan reaching the upper echelons of the pop/dance scene. As  mentioned, there is little in the way of a revolution going here, but then there is never any allusions to this. The young lady has created an honest, functional and catchy track that will no doubt prove to be very popular, and quite rightly so. Yet the real star is Alexis Jordan, who will surely rise to bigger things in the future.
