A-Z: Bestival Compilation 2008
From Sunday best – www.sundaybest.net
Compiled by Rob Da Bank
With previous outings from Annie Mac, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and The Cuban Brothers, Sunday Best’s sublime A-Z series, which sees artists gather together 26 tracks, running the full length of the alphabet in order, returns on September 1st with a very special edition to celebrate all that is Bestival 2008.
This latest instalment has been compiled by Sunday Best top-man and Bestival curator Rob da Bank:
“This new Bestival compilation is just the mental jukebox that exists in my head. And the best bit is they’re all playing at our big crazy party!”
So with that in mind how does the compilation go down? In a nutshell pretty damn well. Rob Da Bank has brought together some diverse artists both new and old giving credence and recognition to those who are just starting to show up on the new music radars. It’s a well known fact that Radio 1 is putting a lot of impetus into new music with ‘In new music we trust’ and BBC Introducing’ so it seems fitting that Rob Da Bank is furthering the cause.
In particular the inclusion of tracks from the likes of the innovative ‘Micachu & The Shapes’, ‘the cocknbullkid’ and ‘Zombie Zombie’ set a particularly interesting tone alongside 2008 breakthrough act ‘Black Kids’ and the more assured sounds of ‘Roots Manuva’ and 80’s throwbacks ‘Human League’.
The double cd album is a welcome insight into what Bestival itself is like and demonstrates the wonderful assortment of sounds that you can discover for yourselves over the 3-day event every September. The festival itself is in its 5th year and has grown massively since year one, a fact that can be attributed to Rob Da Bank and his musical insight and belief in all that is new and interesting. It’s the one festival that can truly be depicted as a ‘crazy party’ with the sights and sounds unlike most of the corporate offerings that have become the ubiquitous festival of today.
This album is an exciting mix-up of multi genre artists and the compilation offers something for everyone from the discerning music lover, to the fan that just occasionally dabbles when a song or sounds takes his or her fancy.
If you want something that will enlighten your musical taste buds then this is a must own and if you haven’t experienced Bestival for yourself then get your ticket for 2009 as soon as you can.
